Enhancing Distribution Grid
Anticipatory Resilience

Enhanced Distribution Grid Advanced Resilience (EDGAR) combines utility operations data with Technical Assistance for States and Tribes Initiative-Grid Resilience Decision-making (TASTI-GRID) outage intelligence to deliver real-time insights for utilities below 50,000 meters.

Using weather forecasts, utility data, and LLM-based AI insights, EDGAR supports proactive risk management before, during, and after outages with role-based controls for sensitive infrastructure information. ORNL developed the Grid Technology Maturity Index (GTMI) to help utilities assess resilience maturity before pre-event outage modeling. GTMI provides a practical readiness baseline and may enable anonymous peer benchmarking as participation grows.

For utilities onboarding to EDGAR, participation in Outage Data Initiative Nationwide (ODIN) is strongly encouraged. ORNL supports imports from leading OMS vendors, and utilities without an in-house OMS can still participate through ODIN tools such as the Outage Data Registry.

Onboarding process

  • Create an account and receive approval to access the EDGAR platform.
  • Complete GTMI and confirm ODIN participation status for your utility.
  • Unlock full EDGAR features once both GTMI and ODIN onboarding steps are complete.
